Your Decisions Define Your Future

Your Decisions Define Your Future

June marks the halfway point of the year.

Six months behind us. Six months ahead.

It’s often around this time that we pause and ask ourselves:

“Am I where I thought I would be?”

“Am I moving toward what truly matters to me?”

“What needs to change?”

The truth is that our future is rarely shaped by one dramatic moment. It is shaped by the decisions we make every day. Small decisions, courageous decisions, uncomfortable decisions, and sometimes the decisions we’ve been avoiding for far too long.

I remember one morning waking up at 5 a.m. with a simple idea.

“I want to start my day with a swim in the lake.”

I could easily have ignored it.

I could have rolled over and gone back to sleep.

But I didn’t.

I listened to that inner voice and acted on it.

What followed were three beautiful hours by the lake, fully present and enjoying every moment.

It wasn’t a life-changing business decision. It wasn’t a major goal. Yet it reminded me of something important:

When we ignore the ideas that come from within, we often miss opportunities that are waiting for us.

How many times have you had an idea, large or small…

and dismissed it?

How many times have you looked back and wondered, “What if I had just followed through?”

Our intuition often speaks quietly. It nudges us toward growth, change, opportunities, and experiences that align with who we truly are. The challenge is that fear, doubt, and overthinking can easily drown it out.

And that brings me to another truth I have learned over the years.

All change starts with making a decision.

You don’t have to know every step.

You don’t have to have the entire plan figured out.

You simply need to decide where you want to go.

Think about setting off in a boat without a destination. Or getting into a car without entering an address into your GPS.

You will end up somewhere, but chances are it won’t be where you truly wanted to go.

Life works much the same way.

Without clarity, we drift.

Without decisions, we remain stuck in the same circumstances, hoping things will somehow change on their own.

But hope is not a strategy.

Clarity is.

Decision is.

Action is.

Many people believe they are afraid of failure when facing an important decision. Yet in my coaching conversations, I often discover something different.

Sometimes we are actually afraid of success.

Afraid of what will be required of us.

Afraid of being seen.

Afraid of stepping into a bigger version of ourselves.

Afraid of leaving behind what feels familiar, even when it no longer serves us.

That is why good decisions are never based solely on fear, pressure, or other people’s expectations.

The best decisions come from clarity.

They come from understanding your values.

They come from being honest with yourself about what you truly want.

When your values guide your strategy, decision-making becomes much easier.

You stop asking:

“What should I do?”

And start asking:

“What aligns with who I am and where I want to go?”

As we move into the second half of the year, I invite you to reflect on one question:

What decision have you been postponing that could change the direction of your future?

Perhaps it’s a business decision.

Perhaps it’s a relationship.

A new goal.

A difficult conversation.

A dream you’ve been putting on hold.

Whatever it is, remember:

You do not need certainty before you begin.

You need clarity about the direction you want to move.

Then trust yourself enough to take the next step.

As I often say:

5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Do it.

Your future is waiting on the other side of a decision.

With love,

Anneli, More than a Coach
