We have all heard the saying that January has 365 days on its own, right? How it feels as if it’s the longest month of the year – but what if there was a reason behind it? Normally, this time of the year (second week of January), I would have my entire year planned out with every month detailed – thanks to help from AI. As the year was starting, and I knew it was time to plan 2026 – I fumbled. I had a blank piece of paper infront of me, with all my colourful pens, and ChatGPT open to assist – but I was just not relating to what it was giving me.
Then I reflected on last year, and I asked myself, did last year’s plan truly reflect me? To be honest, God quickly spoke to me and answered no. He quieted my heart, and I knew this isn’t the way we are going to do 2026 – we are going in with no plan! How’s that for a Catch22 for a business coach? But let me explain…
We tell our clients, and we do it ourselves, where in the beginning of the year, it’s time to work on the goals and plans for the entire year, but being followers of Christ, how are we to know the path He aligns for us? How are we to plan an entire year without Him but say we are following God’s Will for us? It was a reality check that really changed my view of the year.
Am I saying we shouldn’t have plans and goals for the year?Of course that is not what I am saying. It is important to have plans and goals with God, and plans that God places in our hearts and minds – not AI. AI is an amazing tool, do not get me wrong – and in no way am I saying do not use it, however, should we be asking AI to do for us what God should and could do? Should we be making our own plans but asking God midway when things aren’t going right to help? These are questions that came to my mind and that’s when I knew what 2026 verse for me was going to be: Psalm 46:10 – Be Still.
Being still does not mean I do not plan completely or just work on my business with no end goal, it means that I walk with God in my business. That in the noise of January, where everyone is running to the finish line, why not walk? Why compete in a race only you could be in? Because with stillness, comes listening and clarity.
It is really easy to use January as the time it is given to us to plan the year with God. Instead of trying to figure the entire year – sit with God and agree to an end goal for the year. Then in stillness, listen to How he is going to align your path to that end goal. Focus on the quarter instead of 12 overwhelming months. Use January to bring you clarity, instead of rushing the process and burning yourself out mid-year.
It’s okay to do things differently, to do it Gods way. It doesn’t mean you are behind, it doesn’t mean you don’t know what you are doing – it means you are fully trusting a bigger, better plan.
