Taking care of your body and mind is as important as taking care of your business. You are your business and if you are not putting self-care in your daily routine – you will start feeling the impact in your business. Self-care as a Christian is using God’s resources to enrich our lives, benefit others as well as glorifying God at the same time. The Bible emphasises rest and here are some ways to practice those biblical self-care:
- Prayer.
What an amazing way to enrich your life with prayer. Luke 5:16 tells us how Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and pray. In the chaos of giving ourselves to everyone in our business, it is important to take time to ourselves and pray.
- Rest.
The Sabbath is a day given to rest. I know I have also become guilty of ignoring the day of rest especially in today day to day chaos. The importance of resting is so that we can rejuvenate oneself and be of more value to those around us and to our business. With the constant increase in burn out in entrepreneurs and business owners, the least selfish act a Christian business owner could do is rest.
- Eating Healthy.
Eating the right foods can help life stress. If we take care of our bodies, it will take care of us. I am definitely one to indulge in a donut or even cake…(who isn’t?..) however by ensuring we are keeping a healthy balance of what we consume and keeping ourselves hydrated with water we are energised to face every business day.
- Exercise
Moving your body that feels good can help relieve stress and tension. Add exercise to your daily routine and make it as important as updating your cashflow.
- Surround yourself with positive people
Being around others that will uplift you and make you feel good is important to your self care. Take time to see your friends, go to church gatherings, host that Praise & Paint night you have been wanting to do. It may seem as additional stress or time you don’t have but it’s tie you need for your mental health.
Listen to inspirational music.
We all love music, and all types of music, but it’s time to relook at your playlist. Ensure your playlist, especially the one you are listening to in the morning getting ready for your day, is motivating and spiritual. Remove those sad songs, broken hearted music. Music has such a powerful impact not only on our mood but our mental health too. If your day is becoming overwhelming or you about to have a meeting to sign that big client, blast that song that makes you move!
With just these few ways to improve your self-care and with many others – you can ensure to bring 100% of yourself to your business this year without leading to burnout. Self-care is not selfish, it’s key to allowing your faith-based business to serve yourself and others.
